Using oral history projects to teach research skills and personalize learning
Skepticism of historical and scientific fact is at an all time high, even in schools. But inquiry-based assignments help students learn primary source research and understand the world first hand.
One of the easiest multimedia research projects from my book is the Oral History project, a type of #podcast where students record conversations with authors or experts, leaders in their communities, or people affected by a topic of study. Publish these conversations on a class website, or develop your own podcast channel.
Nothing teaches history better (even in #math, #science, and #languagearts) than conversations with real people. Students are forced to reckon with real world impact on others, feel the emotional response, and most importantly, understand and appreciate perspectives other than their own.
